"Do you smoke?" Was the first words that came out of the brown eyed boy's mouth. I was standing in front of my new house, just getting fresh air when he appeared beside me. He slowly blew the strong cigarette smoke out of his mouth, forming a smoke ring.
"No." I said quietly, looking down at my converse. The summer air felt amazing to my skin. I couldn't stop thinking of my father. It was odd that only a few weeks ago he left, taking my sister with him. I couldn't understand why thought.
Did he stop loving me and my mother?
That was such a horrible thing to think of, but I knew that was why. He hates me because I'm gay. He couldn't accept it. It took my mother a while to process it, but eventually, she accepted me. And that's why he hates her.
"Have you ever smoked before?" He asked. I looked up at him and shook my head for a no. I still didn't know his name.
"How long have you been here?" He questioned, leaning against the brick house. He took another long drag of his cigarette.
"A few days now." I answered. I shoved my hands in my pockets and leaned against the house as well.
"How old are you?"
"Seventeen." I answered.
"Cool. I'm eighteen."
And then it fell back into silence again. I looked up at the sky, not really being able to see the stars because of the city lights. Then, he spoke up again.
"Mm. Here. Take a puff." He said, holding the cigarette only inches away from my dry lips. I shook my head and took a step back.
"Why not? You scared?"
I shook my head. "No. It's just, I'm not allowed to smoke."
He chuckled. "Really? So you go by the rules, huh?"
"Yeah." I almost said in a whisper. He took the last drag of his cigarette before tossing it on the ground and stepping on it with his converse.
"Well, it's getting late. I better head back home. I'll see you at school tomorrow?"
"No. I uh... I dropped out."
"Oh. Well, maybe after school. I'm Dave, by the way."
He grinned. "Cool. G'night, Kurt."
"Goodnight." I whispered as he walked into the darkness. I noticed that only one house separated us.
I stood outside for a little while longer before going inside. I quietly shut the door behind me, behind careful not to wake my mother up. I stumbled through the dark house and quietly crept up the stairs.
As I passed my mother's room, I paused and peeked inside to make sure she was asleep. I know she had been so tired lately. Sometimes, I really worried over her.
I sighed as I walked into my bedroom. I closed the door and flopped down on the bed. The moon light shone through the window, giving me light. I glanced at the clock, seeing it was a little past midnight.
I was still getting used to the place. I had always lived in the city. But this city was a bit different. I was in Seattle now. Far away from where I used to live.
I found myself thinking of Dave. I wanted to see him again. There was something about him. I didn't know what it was though. But a spark of excitement lit up his eyes. I knew he was a trouble maker, a bad influence, and I shouldn't hang around him, but I wanted to.
Maybe I had one of those crushes. The ones when you first look at someone and feel something. I know it'll go away soon though. It always does.
Even if it didn't, nothing would happen between us. For one, he most likely isn't gay. For seconds, if he was gay, he wouldn't want someone like me. Because I'm pathetic.
I decided to stop thinking about it and shut my sleepy eyes, trying to let sleep take over me. I could hear the clock ticking and a few little creeks from the old house.
Eventually though, I fell asleep, hoping to see Dave the next day.
"No, I don't have a gun." I sang, strumming my guitar as I stared out the window, watching as cars passed by. I wanted to see Dave again, but I knew he was in school.
I just couldn't get him out of my head. All night, all morning, he was stuck in my mind. He was just so attractive and interesting. He was like a bad boy, and I was like the sweet little innocent one who was head over heels for him, even though I only know his name.
"Kurt! I'm going to work now. I'll see you this evening. I love you."
"Okay. I love you too, mom!" I yelled down to her. I heard the front door open, then close.
I sat my guitar down on the carpet floor before laying back in bed and waiting around for Dave. Every few minutes I would look at the clock. 12:30. 12:32. 12:35. 12:42. 1:01. 1:12. 1:17.
Could time go any slower?
After waiting and waiting, it was already past 9:00 PM. I figured that Dave wasn't going to come see me tonight. So instead of going after him, I just laid in bed, disappointing thoughts running through my head, until I ended up falling asleep.
I woke up to the sound of something tapping against my window. I slowly pulled myself out of bed and crept over to the window. As I opened it, I saw that Dave was throwing rocks at my window.
"What are you doing? It's like three in the morning." I whisper-yelled. He grinned as he motioned for me to come down.
"C'mon, Kurt. Jump and I'll catch you."
"It's late, Dave."
"I can see that. Now c'mon. Jump."
"But what? Tomorrow's Saturday. Come on. We have to celebrate for my summer break."
"I-I don't know." I said quietly. He ran his fingers through his long hair before crossing his arms.
"Please?" He said, his brown eyes pleading at me. I groaned.
"Fine. But you better not let me fall."
"I won't. Jump. I got you."
And I did what he said. I jumped. He tried to catch me, but we both ended up falling on the ground with me on top of him. My cheeks felt like they were on fire. I tried to pull myself up, but he held me down with a devilish grin on his face. I felt his hands slide around my hips until they landed on my ass. He gave it a squeeze, and that was when I gasped and jumped up.
"You have a nice ass." He commented. I crossed my arms and rolled my eyes through my embarrassment.
He chuckled before taking my arm and pulled me towards the woods. "Follow me."
"Umm... Why are we going in the woods?" I asked cautiously.
"I want to show you something."
"Are you going to kill me?"
He chuckled. "No. Don't worry, I won't kill you. We're almost there."
"Okay." I said quietly. Sticks broke from under our feet as we continued to walk through the woods. I couldn't hardly see anything. It was so dark.
"We're here." He said. And in front of us was a tree house. Dave pulled me over to the stairs and began to climb.
"Come on up." He said. I followed behind him up the ladder until we were inside.
"Look." He said with a grin as he pulled out a brown paper bag. Inside the bag, he pulled out a bottle of whiskey.
"What are you doing with that?! You know you aren't suppose to drink until you're twenty-one." I scolded him.
"Pfft. You know I don't go by the rules, sweetheart." He said, opening up the bottle. "And you wanna know something?"
"You're gonna drink some with me."
I shook my head. "No. I-I can't. I'm only seventeen."
"I won't tell anyone." He promised, holding the bottle up to my mouth.
"It's bad though." I whispered.
"Do it. For me." He whispered. And I couldn't help but to give into him. I let him hold the bottle to my lips and I let him slowly pour the drink into my mouth.
"Shit." I groaned, coughing. "That's strong."
He burst into laughter as he patted my back. "You'll be alright." And then he took a drink, just like it was water.
After a while of drinking, I realized that I was buzzing a bit. I didn't know how drunk Dave was, but he finished the rest of the bottle and shoved the empty bottle back into the brown bag.
"You okay?" He asked, moving closer to me. I nodded my head. I was okay, only if my throat wasn't burning.
"Are you a fag?" He suddenly asked. A sharp pain went through my heart.
Did he seriously just ask that?
"I'm not a fag." I said angrily, crossing my arms.
"Yeah, you're a fag." He said with a chuckle.
"You're such a jerk." I said. I turned to leave the tree house, but he grabbed my arm, stopping me.
"It's okay. I am too." He said, his voice a whisper. "Come here."
Before I could say or do anything, he pulled me closer to him and placed his lips on top of mine. I could taste the strong whiskey on his tongue as he battled it with mine.
I hardly knew him, but here I was, his hands on my hips, his lips moving with mine. I didn't know how far he expected this to go, but no way I was going to give up my virginity tonight.
His hands went up my shirt, roaming around. I wanted to tell him to stop, but his touch sent shivers down my spine. But when he started to grind his hips into mine, I placed a hand on his chest and pushed him away.
"No. We can't go any further." I whispered almost breathlessly. He licked his lips and grinned.
"I figured. But, no one can know about this, okay?" He said, whispering the last part in my ear. I nodded my head. Who would I have to tell anyway?
"Good. No one."
"No one." I repeated.
"I feel so proud of myself for kissing the hottest guy in Seattle." He said with a grin plastered on his face. I playfully pushed him before standing up on my feet.
"It's getting late. We should get back." I whispered.
"Yeah. Let's get going."
What one crazy night.
